Card girls' soccer: Stinson is MVP

Cardinals hand out season awards at year-end banquet

An 0.8 goals against average put the Cardinal girls’ soccer team in the top 10 among Class A schools in that statistic and was key to allowing Alexandria to rack up a 10-5-3 record this past season.

A big part of that success went to senior Leah Stinson, who was selected as the most valuable player on the team. Stinson also served as one of three captains for the team.

“This year’s team did an exemplary job,” said head coach Tom Roos of his team. “Their attitude, effort and ability to work together and get along as a team not only made for a successful season on the field, but also made for a wonderful and memorable experience.”

Senior Lauren Trumm was awarded the team’s most improved player honors, while the Cardinal award went to senior captain Mikayla Lucas and the coaches’ award was shared by senior Tara Peterson and sophomore Bria Nienaber.

The Cardinals, who earned the conference sportsmanship of the year award for the second straight season, put three players on the CLC All-Conference list in senior captain Ashley Vanderveur, senior Heidi Krueger, Stinson and sophomore Sarah Bruzek.

Sophomore Anna Spanbauer, junior Gabby Koel and senior Kassandra Kriese received honorable mention.

Seniors on the team were Stinson, Lucas, Vanderveur, Peterson, Hannah Krivanek, Brooke Aaberg, Krueger, Kriese and Trumm.
