Girls' swimming and diving: Making a splash against cancer

The Cardinal girls’ swimming and diving team, along with swimmers from Sauk Rapids-Rice, hosted “Let’s Make a Splash Against Cancer” night to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, considered the silent killer of women because the signs and symptoms are so subtle that this form of cancer is difficult to diagnose. Swimmers handed out kazoos to spectators to make noise against ovarian cancer and ran a “chuck-a-duck” competition, raising $94 for the oncology unit at the Douglas County Hospital. The cancer awareness night was also part of a Girl Scout Gold Award project by swimmer Christina Weisel titled “United in Friendship for Hope.”
