250 vocalists needed for ‘Carmina Burana’ concert

The Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra is looking for 250 voices to create a choir for a community performance of Carmina Burana. Performances will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at Jefferson High School in Alexandria.

Performances will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at Jefferson High School in Alexandria.

Rehearsals for the choir will be held Tuesday evenings January 10, 17, 24, 31 and February 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. A dress rehearsal will be held Saturday, March 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The choir will be under the direction of Steven Deitz, director of choirs at Jefferson High School.

Registration is free and available to all who are interested. There is room for 250 singers who are comfortable reading choral music.

Registration is on a first-come, first–served basis. All registrations will be taken through District 206 Community Education in Alexandria between November 15 and December 15. Register in person at the Community Education Office at Woodland Elementary School or call .(320) 762-3310.

Music will be given out at the time of registration or at the first rehearsal.

Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1935 and 1936. It is based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection Carmina Burana. The work calls for a large orchestra, a large mass choir and several soloists.
