Kathryn "Kathy" Adele Anderson, nee Massmann, age 52 of Munich, North Dakota, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 at her home.
Kathryn "Kathy" Adele Anderson, nee Massmann, age 52 of Munich, North Dakota, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 at her home.
Kathryn was born November 24, 1958 in Glenwood to Dale and Wilmeta (Stolz) Massmann. She attended the United Methodist Church and Villard Public School. She graduated as valedictorian of her class in Villard High School in 1975. After high school, Kathy furthered her education attending the University of Minnesota Morris and Twin Cities campuses. She graduated with a degree in business administration and economics and a minor in mathematics.
She was employed with the United States Postal Service where she worked in various towns. Currently she was postmaster of the Munich Post Office. She was a member of the Chamber and Board of Directors in Devils Lake, ND. Kathy was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Munich, Dollars for Scholars, Rotary, and Hershey track meet.
On February 2, 1982, Kathy was united in marriage to Lynn Schmiess in Springfield, Missouri. The couple made their home on a farm in Munich. This marriage was blessed with three children, Jeri, Brian and Eric. They later divorced.
She married Steven Anderson on November 5, 2000. They resided in Munich and later divorced in May of 2011.
Kathy loved to run, including running 5Ks, read, and watch sports. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren and will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Kathy is survived by her children; Jeri (Craig) Schmiess Penas of Thompson, ND, Brian Schmiess of Munich, ND, and Eric Schmiess of Munich; grandchildren, Rylan Penas, Caden Penas and Riley Schmiess; parents, Dale and Wilmeta Massmann of Villard; sister, Kristin (Larry) Gabrielson of Alexandria; brothers, Mark (Sandy) Massmann of Glenwood, Todd (Paula) Massmann of Brandon, SD, Scott (Shelly) Massmann of Villard, Rod (Gail) Massmann of Forada, and James (Amy) Massmann of Glenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rudy and Ann Massmann and Engel Schnetzer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 15 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Villard with Pastor Joshua Heimbuck officiating. Interment was at Lake Amelia Cemetery in Villard.
