Ciara Drexler from Ashby has written a song and she needs local residents to make a video that will be sent to local service men and women for Veterans Day 2011.
She is asking for people of all ages to gather at Citizen’s Field in Alexandria on Wednesday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. Drexler’s vision is that a strong community representation will turn out for the video shoot.
The young vocalist began writing her original song, Civilian’s Song, in August and is now seeking the assistance of others to bring the song to life in what she hopes to be a video tribute message of thanks and support.
The video is to show local men and women from this area serving our country that not only do loved ones support them, but the entire community supports them as well.
Drexler will perform her song with the band from Ashby’s Destiny Church and videographers will film the event. She is hopeful the bleachers at the football field will be filled and the audience will participate with smiles and general patriotism and by cheering and singing too, if so inclined.
After the filming is complete, she is requesting military families remain in attendance in order to gather information from them to include in the credits of the video.
After the video footage has been shot, she intends to have the video completed and posted on the YouTube website at www.youtube.com by Veterans Day. She would like everyone to share the video with active military friends and family along with all military veterans they know.
Although it is not necessary, Drexler is requesting that people RSVP for the event by emailing her at standupminnesota@gmail.com.

Civilian’s Song
(Stand Up) © 2011
By: Ciara Drexler
Verse 1
To the soldier who’s been gone for so long
We’ve been here, cheering you on
With our civilian’s song
Never once has this been in vain
We will never forget the names
Of all of those who freely gave
For freedom’s cause
Chorus 1
Oh the things you must have seen
The things you must have done
The things you must have lost
And all the battles you have won
For such a heavy price
We just want to say
Thank you for the sacrifice
Verse 2
To the soldier far from home
Whose fearless strength carries on
May these words keep you strong
In our civilian’s song
(Chorus 1)
Bridge 1
So we just stand up
Everybody say it louder
Everybody say it prouder
God Bless the USA
So we just stand up
Everybody say it louder
Everybody say it prouder
I love the USA
(Instrumental, Chorus 2)
Chorus 2
Oh the things you must have seen
The things you must have done
The things you must have lost
And all the battles you have won
All for freedom’s cause
We just want to say
Thank you for it all
Bridge 2
In the cold and in the night
And in the warmth of the bright sunlight
Remember this as you march on
We stand for you in our civilian’s song
