John Hoff, formerly of Alexandria, holds up the Alexandria Echo Press in Paktia Province, Afghanistan. His sister, Mary Feigum of Hoffman, sends him the newspaper. In the 1980s, Hoff worked at the Douglas County Humane Society and for the Lakes Review newspaper in Osakis. He is a member of the Minnestoa National Guard, but he joined the Oklahoma National Guard so that he could be deployed to Afghanistan, where he is now serving.
