Area tennis: Osakis is top seed in Section 6A, wins first match

The Osakis tennis team earned the top seed in the Section 6A tournament, which began Wednesday morning at Gold’s Gym in St. Cloud.

The Silverstreaks entered the tournament with an 18-0 record after beating Parkers Prairie last Thursday. The Panthers were named the sixth seed in the 6A field. Minnewaska entered as the seventh seed, while West Central Area was named the No. 9 seed and defeated Morris 4-3 in the play-in game Tuesday night.

Osakis then defeated West Central Area 7-0 in the quarterfinals, while Sauk Centre ended Parkers Prairie’s season with a 6-1 loss and Minnewaska’s season ended at the hands of Melrose with a 6-1 loss.

Osakis moved on to the semifinals last night, Thursday, when they faced Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 8 a.m. in Sartell at Gold’s Gym.

The winner of that contest faced the winner of the Sauk Centre/Melrose match at noon yesterday.
