WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a video message, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) urged service members and veterans who had their military service involuntarily extended under the Stop Loss program between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2009 to claim their retroactive stop loss pay. "Our veterans and service members have earned this retroactive pay and I urge them to claim it, " said Sen. Franken. "The October 21st deadline is fast approaching, so we need to get the word out. These members of the military served with honor and dedication, and they deserve this money.
Congress provided over $500 million for veterans, service members, and primary beneficiaries of service members whose military service was involuntarily extended through the Stop Loss program to receive pay. However, to date only about 40 percent of the funds have been distributed.
The deadline for eligible service members to apply to claim their pay is October 21st, so they have to act quickly. To apply for retroactive pay go to: http://www.defense.gov/stoploss
