The Someplace Safe board of directors announced it has accepted the resignation of Jeanne Jacobs, executive director, effective October 16, 2011.

The Someplace Safe board of directors announced it has accepted the resignation of Jeanne Jacobs, executive director, effective October 16, 2011.

Jacobs said, “The time has come for me to move on to new adventures. It is with deep appreciation for this experience that I leave the agency in the capable hands of a dedicated board of directors, passionate and knowledgeable staff, and a broader base of community support and donors throughout the region.”

She continued, “I truly appreciate and honor the staff, board members, community members, and donors who supported me, and ultimately Someplace Safe, during the past four years. I leave with the knowledge that we have instilled more deeply than ever the work of Someplace Safe as a vital asset in each of our communities.”

The board plans to explore a full range of options as it considers Jacobs’ successor. Current Director of Program Services Sheila Korby will assume Interim duties. During the interim period, no changes will be made to the services provided by Someplace Safe.

Korby has been with Someplace Safe for more than eight years, and prior to her current position was a program manager and criminal justice intervention advocate for the agency. She has provided a variety of training for professionals, and helped to organize intervention task force panels in area schools and communities.

Korby currently serves on the board of directors of Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota and the Commission on Judicial Selection as the Seventh Judicial District non-attorney member to the commission. She graduated from Minnesota State University at Moorhead with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and a minor in political science.
