Phyllis Harriet Anderson, 91, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.

Phyllis was born July 5, 1920 in Alexandria to Otto and Mary Peterson. She was the youngest of their 12 children and the last to survive. Phyllis graduated from Alexandria High School in 1938. Following graduation, she lived in Tuckahoe, New York for a number of years and was employed by Burroughs Welcome and Company. She returned to Alexandria to help care for her parents where she met S.A. “Lars” Larson. They were married September 16, 1944 and had three children.

She worked for many years at Cowing Robards and at the Alexandria Golf Club until her retirement. She was an avid golfer, loved to play bridge and relished her wide circle of friends. Her family was often treated to the results of her expert baking skills, which produced delicious rolls, bars and pies. Later in life she developed an interest in nature and spent many happy hours watching wildlife outside her window, often with her favorite dogs, Brady and Daisy, at her side.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; 11 siblings; and son, James.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Bakke (Vern) of San Antonio, Texas and Judy Melville of Alexandria. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer, Chris, Steven and Thomas; and five great-grandchildren, Maddi, Jason, Alison, Emily and Beth.

She and her beautiful smile will be greatly missed.

It was her request that no services be held. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Lakes Area Humane Society.
