At a special school board meeting held September 29, the Alexandria District 206 School Board approved a gross certified tax levy for 2012 that is 4.18 percent lower than the gross certified tax levy for the current year.

The proposed 2011 (payable 2012) levy of $7.706 million is approximately $337,000 less than the final 2010 (payable 2011) levy of $8.043 million.

It is also the lowest levy over the past four years.

The proposed levy represents the maximum amount the district may levy based on current educational funding laws.

The final 2011 (payable 2012) levy that the school board is expected to approve at its December 19 meeting may be less than but not greater than the proposed levy.
