The Alexandria volleyball team won its third straight Central Lakes Conference game last Thursday night to even its record in league play at 4-4.
The Cardinals needed five sets but they got the job done (25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 14-25, 15-12) to move into fourth place in the CLC with the Tigers.
“The team is really continuing to improve in intensity and mental toughness,” head coach Becky Schlichting said. “Improvements in both of these areas are exactly what has helped us edge out our past couple of CLC opponents to get some big and important wins.”
Laurel Thompson had 13 kills against a tough St. Cloud Tech block. Amanda Christianson added seven kills and was tough behind the serving line with eight aces. Shanee’ Herd had 15 digs, Jenni Wild had 12 and Christianson chipped in eight as they got the ball up to their setters in a position to do something with it.
Allie Noetzelman finished with a team-high 21 assists. Quinn Kragenbring added 12, as well.
“We knew going in they would have a large block and hitters with a ton of potential,” Schlichting said. “Out-defending them was our game plan, and we did just that.”
