Broadway Medical Center in Alexandria and Sanford Health announced today that they have agreed to a letter of intent (LOI). This is non-binding first step in a potential merger.
The LOI allows the entities to complete "due diligence," which includes financial, legal and business information that will help validate if joining together is a good decision for both organizations. A timeline of January 1, 2012 has been set for a potential definitive agreement.
Broadway Medical Center has 34 providers and over 100 staff in two locations. Services include: allergy, emergency medicine, endocrinology, family medicine, general surgery, hospitalists, internal medicine, OB/GYN & midwifery care, oncology and podiatry.
“Our vision is focused on what’s best for our patients in the Alexandria region, and how together we can grow what we’ve started. We are excited about the possibilities.” said Dr. Doug Griffin, Broadway Medical Center. “This is a time of great change in health care, but also a time of great opportunity. It’s very common for health care organizations to seek partners for collaboration.”
“The focus of current discussions is maintaining the long term, strong future of health care along the I-94 corridor and enhancing access to services for patients in the Alexandria area,” said Dr. Bruce Pitts. “We’re confident there are opportunities for growth and partnership in the Alexandria area.”
Broadway Medical Center has two clinics located at 1527 Broadway Street, Alexandria, Minn. and 115 East Soo Street, Parkers Prairie, Minn.
Alexandria is in central Minnesota along I-94 just over 100 miles east of Fargo, and 130 miles west of Minneapolis. The population of the region is significant: Alexandria - 11,000, Douglas county - 36,000 and including contiguous counties (Grant, Stevens, Stearns, Todd and Otter Tail) 260,000.
The merger talks began with discussions between Dr. Doug Griffin, Broadway Medical Center, and Dr. Dan Blue, Sanford Health, who have a long-standing collegial relationship. Broadway Medical Center also has a longstanding relationship with Douglas County Hospital, Heartland Orthopedics and Alexandria Clinic and is committed to maintaining those relationships.
