Scholarships awarded to area students
The following students each received a $1,000 scholarship from the Douglas County Hospital Auxiliary. Students are listed by name followed by hometown and college attending.
Sara Bernardy, Brandon, Alexandria Technical and Community College; Susan Birkholz, Parkers Prairie, College of St. Scholastica; Lorelei Frederick, Glenwood, Winona State University; Tanya Froemming, Garfield, Presentation College, Lydia Hartsell, Alexandria, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus; Laura Johnson, Kensington, Northland Community and Technical College; Samatha Woida, Brandon, Minnesota State and Technical College.
Nathan Nelson of Alexandria received the Community of Learners Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year from the University of North Dakota (UND) in Grand Forks. The scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who have shown exemplary achievement in both high school grade point average and test scores. Nelson is a Jefferson High School graduate and is the son of Keith and Karen Nelson. He plans to attend UND in the fall.
Crystal Bosek of Garfield received the seventh annual Leonard and Vi Wulf Memorial Scholarship at the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress in Amarillo, Texas in July. Leonard and Vi Wulf, founders of Wulf Limousin Farms in Morris, enabled the $500 scholarship. Bosek has been a member of both the North American Limousin Junior Association and Minnesota Junior Limousin Association for three years. She will study veterinary science and large animal reproduction at North Dakota State University in Fargo. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career with Select Sires and expand her own beef herd.
