ST. CLOUD, Minn. – While the job market is still extremely competitive, the good news for college grads this year is that hiring will be up, according to the results of the eighth annual MN College Job Outlook 2012.

Conducted by Andrew Ditlevson, associate director of St. Cloud State University’s Career Services Center, the survey is the only study of its kind which specifically surveys employers who are actively recruiting in Minnesota for new college graduates.

According to the survey, hiring will be up with 36.4 percent of employers planning to increase their hiring. Industries most likely to increase hiring are education, retail and business services.

“The reoccurring theme throughout the survey is the need for students to attend and prepare for career fairs, do internships and utilize their campus career services office,” Ditlevson said.

The study includes responses from 257 employers actively recruiting new college graduates in Minnesota who were were surveyed in August and September 2011; 119 responses were received resulting in a 43.6% response rate.
