The 13th annual Operation Bootstrap Africa walk will be held on Saturday, October 1.

The three-and-a-half-mile walk will begin at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The walk will conclude at the church with a lunch provided for the walkers.

Last year’s event raised the funds required to build a second special needs classroom for Ilboro School in Arusha, Tanzania.

This year’s challenge is to provide funds for the construction of at least one classroom for Olchoki Primary School, located in the village of Ngateau.

The school serves grades 1-7 and has only 13 classrooms for 1,650 students. It has been forced to go to split shifts in order to accommodate the school population, in some cases 65 students per shift.

Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate in this event either by walking or by sponsoring a walker.

Pledge forms can be picked up at the Shalom Lutheran Church office in Alexandria. Pledge money should be turned in at the beginning of the walk.

Walkers should arrive at First Lutheran Church no later than 10:45 a.m. to register.
