The Echo Press Strike Out Illiteracy fundraiser at Garden Center last Thursday was a big success, raising more than $4,500. The proceeds will go to the Newspapers in Education program, which distributes newspapers to teachers to use as a learning tool in their classrooms. The Echo Press discounts the newspapers for schools by more than 50 percent and the bowling fundraiser covers the rest of the costs to provide papers to area schools for free. This year’s team winners were Henry’s Foods (first place), Garden Center (second) and Kiwanis (third).
