UPDATE 5:30 P.M.: Suspect in custody

A suspect wanted on a felony warrant was apprehended about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday after a lengthy chase and manhunt by law enforcement.

Christopher Carman, 46, of Nelson, was apprehended by Douglas County Sheriff's deputies. The suspect was reportedly armed. Ambulances responded to the scene.

Carman is wanted on a felony warrant for drugs.

When a deputy tried to pull the suspect's vehicle over at 7:29 a.m. this morning, he sped off and a short pursuit took place. The suspect then fled from his vehicle on foot into a cornfield east of Miltona. Authorities searched areas in and around Primrose Road, County Road 65 and County Road 14 about three miles east of Miltona. The search involved K-9 units and air support.

As a precautionary measure, the Miltona Magnet Elementary School and Carlos Elementary School were in a security lockdown.
