Anita Ferguson was the winner of the first Lakes Area Quilters block contest at this year’s Douglas County Fair. Quilt blocks were displayed and fair-goers voted for their favorite.
Thirty-four unfinished 12.5-inch quilt blocks were entered in this year’s contest and after 619 votes, Ferguson was named the winner. The theme was “star” and the colors were patriotic. The blocks from the 2011 contest will be assembled into three quilt tops for Quilts of Valor, a nonprofit organization that provides a quilt to all wounded soldiers.
As the winner, Ferguson received a one-year membership to Lakes Area Quilters and a blue ribbon.
Instructions for next year’s quilt block contest will be included in the Douglas County Fair Premium book available in 2012.
