Two Alexandria women were rescued from the Long Prairie River Sunday.

A person jogging by the river near South Park Drive heard voices calling for help from the water and called 911 at about 5:30 p.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources responded and the two women – Katherine Ann Heydt, 32, and Bridget Ann Spanbauer, 33, were rescued.

They told the sheriff’s department that they were tubing down the river when one of their tubes deflated and they weren’t able to swim up river because of the strong current.
