UPDATE: Crash near Alexandria causes serious injuries; third driver's name released

New information has been released about a crash involving a semi and two passenger cars that shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 east of Alexandria for about two and a half hours early this morning.

A crash involving a semi and two passenger cars shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 east of Alexandria for about two and a half hours early this morning.

The State Patrol said the crash happened at about 3:15 a.m. Monday near milepost 105 and caused serious injuries.

According to new information released this afternoon, the driver of one of the passenger vehicles, April Danielson, 25, of Lakeville, suffered serious injuries and is hospitalized in critical condition.

The driver of the semi, Donald Fitzgerald, 55, of Pine City, suffered non-life threatening injuries, and another driver, Michael Kingrey, 25, of St. Paul, wasn’t injured.

State troopers were assisted by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, North Ambulance and the Alexandria Fire Department.
