Beetles' season over

The Alexandria Beetles saw their best season in franchise history come to an abrupt end in game three of the North Division playoffs on Wednesday night.

A team that has come up with the big hit all summer could not find the one to save its season. The Beetles left 11 men on base, including the tying run on third in the bottom of the seventh.

Mankato responded in the next inning by squeezing across a run off all-star Anthony Bazzani. Alexandria could never mount another threat as the MoonDogs moved on to play for a Northwoods League title after the 5-3 win.

A magical second half of the season looked like it might carry over into the playoffs after Tuesday night. The Beetles forced a game three with a walk-off, 4-3 win in 10 innings in game two after falling 10-4 Monday night in the opener of the series.
