Wensia Johnson is Hershey long jump champion

Using a jump of 8’ 4.5”, Alexandria’s Wensia Johnson captured first place in the girls’ 13-14 standing long jump at the 34th Hershey’s Track and Field North American Finals.

Johnson, who won the State Hershey Track and Field title in the event with an 8’ 5” jump, won the North American event by 1.5” over Rachael Miller of Baldswinville, New York.

Her jump was less than a foot from the national record of 9’ 3.5”, set in 1991 by Marzette Penton of Tacoma, Washington.

More than 400 athletes from all over the country participated in the finals.
