Alex Swim Club: Three swimmers place at Zone competitionAll three reached the finals in one event
Three Alexandria Swim Club competitors earned the right to compete at the Central Zone meets last weekend as Bridget Opdahl, Hannah Eklund and Max Jacobson all earned trips during the state competition. Eklund and Opdahl returned home with top-10 finishes, while all three reached the finals in at least one event.
“I was very excited for our swimmers to get an opportunity to compete at a meet the size and caliber as the Central Zone Meet,” said head coach Dave Molesworth. “I know they all gained some very valuable experience being at that level.
“I am very pleased with all three of these athletes and I am hoping to see them continue to perform on this level and higher ones in the future.”
Eklund and Jacobson competed in Topeka, Kansas for their Central Zone meet along with nearly 170 others from the state as part of 14 and younger Team Minnesota.
Eklund finished eighth in the 50 breaststroke prelims in 37.99 and was eighth in the finals in 38.45.
Jacobson was 24th in the 50 free preliminaries at 27.28, just 0.27 seconds from ninth place. In the 100 free prelims, Jacobson was 55th in 1:02.47.
Opdahl traveled to Franklin, Indiana for her meet where she finished 10th in the prelims of the 200 butterfly in 3:01.82, then improved to ninth in the finals with a time of 2:55.81. She also finished 22nd in the prelims of the 200IM in 3:00.84 and 24th in the 50 free prelims in 29.10, then 24th in the finals of the 50 with a time of 29.28.
