The Minnesota Legislature’s cuts to cities are coming home to roost.
At its meeting Monday night, the Alexandria City Council amended its 2011 budget to make up for $673,695 in reduced Local Government Aid (LGA) and the elimination of the market value homestead credit (MVHC).
The council couldn’t raise its levy – taxes have already been collected for this year – so it had to make cuts within the budget that had been based on the certified LGA amounts.
Read Wednesday's Echo Press to find out what the council decided to cut.
A variety of other items were also on Monday’s agenda, including a $7.5 million revenue bond to the Alexandria Technical and Community College Foundation; the purchase a new outdoor alert siren; hiring a street maintenance supervisor; a resolution to provide deferred assessments to senior citizens facing a financial hardship; a new agreement to blacktop Cardinal Lane.
Wednesday's Echo Press will have more details.
