Reader’s Choice Favorite Church Dinner

St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria has been giving back to the community with its annual Thanksgiving dinner for more than 10 years.

According to Anna Solheid, event co-chair, about 300 people attended the dinner at the church last year, and another 200 to 300 meals were delivered.

The event is sponsored by the St. Mary’s Pastoral Council and includes a complete Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings for those persons in the community who might not otherwise be able to have a Thanksgiving dinner.

Volunteers come forward each year to help with the preparation, serving, and delivery of these meals, and much of the costs are defrayed by contributions from the business community.

“It takes well over a month of planning, but past organizers have gotten it down to a science,” Solheid said. “Those who preceded us did an excellent job and all we have to do is follow the guidelines they created for us.”
