Pete’s County Market received the high honor of Echo Press readers’ favorite grocery store.

What lures customers to Pete’s aisles?

“We have a welcoming, clean store and we try to have a fairpriced, quality product,” Store Manager Bob Ahlgren said. “We have the freshest meat and produce in the Alexandria area.”

Pete’s has been a hub in Alexandria since 1938, and was originally named Peterson Grocery Store. In 1986 the store moved to the Midway Mall on South Broadway in Alexandria.

Ahlgren said he was “very happy” to learn of the award. He praised Pete’s employees for being the main reason customers keep coming back.

Pete’s County Market makes it fresh. It is the recipient of the Echo Press award for readers’ favorite deli.

The deli boasts a wide variety of cheeses, specialty trays, meats and salad items as well as buffet and box lunches and a potato bar.

“We have been trying to change it up and have fresh, quality products,” Store Manager Bob Ahlgren said.

Ahlgren said there is another reason customers return to Pete’s – the staff.
