Cheese curds
Hot, gooey, deep-fried cheese curds were voted the favorite county fair food. In the Midwestern U.S., deep-fried cheese curds are a highlight of any fair, carnival or festival, and the Douglas County Fair is no exception.
Fairgoers can be found standing in long lines at the several concession wagons that specialize in this fun, tasty treat.
Curds of cheese are covered with a batter or are breaded and placed in a deep fryer until golden brown, and served hot.
