The second annual Hope for Gus benefit is set for Friday, August 5 at 7 p.m. at The Barn at Holiday Inn in Alexandria. All proceeds will go to the Hope for Gus Foundation, which raises funds to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).
DMD is a form of muscular dystrophy that results in muscle degeneration, difficulty walking, breathing, and death.
Hope for Gus Foundation was started when Gus Dreher, son of Tonya (Bakewell) and Steve Dreher, was diagnosed with the disease at age 4. Tonya is an Alexandria native. The foundation is committed to raising money for research to help fund an effective treatment or a cure for DMD.
This year’s fundraiser will include raffle items; a live auction featuring two vacations and a dinner cruise; food; music; cash bar; and silent auction.
Josie Nelson, a local 11-year-old singer/songwriter, will perform at the benefit. She has played at the Minnesota State Fair, Carlos Creek Winery, Evansville Art Center, and is currently recording with Tyler Ward Music in Denver and has begun releasing some of her songs on iTunes.
Tickets are $30 per person and are available at the door. For information about the foundation or DMD, visit the website www.hopeforgus.com.
