It was like Christmas in July for two big projects that came before the Alexandria City Council Monday night.

The city received very favorable bids for a waterline extension project and an electrical distribution upgrade.

The news, however, wasn't so merry when it came time to look at the bids for an improvement to Cardinal Lane.

Read Wednesday's Echo Press for complete details on the bidding projects, along with other council action concerning private well drilling, a tax increment financing request for a new recreational vehicle and marine dealership, an amendment to the city’s comprehensive plan, an underground treatment system on the north end of Lake Victoria, a redesigned stormwater pond near Highway 29 North, Community Night Out, an appointment to the Lakes Area Recreation Board, a work session to discuss the budget, and a possible meeting between the council, school district and county board.
