Baseball: Carlos tied for division lead
The Whitecaps defeated Menahga-Sebeka 9-8 to jump into first place
The Carlos Whitecaps welcomed in the Menahga-Sebeka Silver Relics last Friday and sent them home with a 9-8 loss that left the two teams tied for first place in the division.
Dan Nolan guided the Whitecaps to a win with a huge night at the plate. The 37-year-old had three doubles and went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Greg Nathe added two hits and two RBIs, while Greg Endres went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
That helped Carlos overcome a big inning by Menahga. The Silver Relics erased a 5-1 deficit by putting up seven runs in the top of the fourth. Carlos immediately responded with three in the bottom of the inning to tie the game up at eight apiece. The Whitecaps got the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Nolan made that run stand up over the final three innings. He added to his day by getting the win on the mound in three innings of relief. Nolan was almost perfect, allowing no hits and walking just one. He struck out two.
The Whitecaps’ scheduled game against Nisswa was canceled this past Saturday. Carlos will now have a week off before resuming play at home against Urbank on July 29.
