An early morning severe thunderstorm last Friday produced up to 7 inches of rain in the Alexandria area, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. At 8 a.m. last Friday, a flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for Douglas and southern Todd counties. The flood warning remained in effect through 11 a.m.

Other reports from the area included 4.46 inches of rain in rural Osakis and 8 inches in rural Evansville.

Authorities warn motorists to not drive through flooded roadways or parking lots.

In addition, the NWS issued an excessive heat watch for the weekend. The heat may cause dangerous situations that can cause heat illnesses. Take precautions to keep yourself, your family and animals cool.

See Wednesday's Echo Press for more coverage of Friday's flash flooding.
