Douglas County Roads 11 and 34 on the north side of Alexandria and the corner of LaGrand and Carlos townships will be closed for reconstruction beginning Wednesday, July 13.

The reconstruction is phase three of a three-phase project on County Roads 11, 34 and 42.

Road closures will be located from the Carlos -Darling bridge to Casa Marina Road and from the intersection north 1,000 feet on County Road 11, according to Public Works Director Dave Robley.

Motorists will be detoured to the west from the intersection of County Roads 42 and 44 around the west side of Lake Darling on County Roads 44, 22, 104 (Arrowwood Drive) and 34 and across Pilgrim Point Road.

The reconstruction will improve sight distance in the area, according to Robley.

“It is very steep and sharp and you just can’t see traffic,” he said. “It’s been a poor condition for a long time.”

The project will also improve the alignment of the intersection and add shoulders and a sidewalk on one side, according to Robley.

Douglas County commissioners unanimously awarded the contract for the reconstruction to Central Specialties Inc. from Alexandria.

Central Specialties was the lowest bidder with a bid of $699,946.58. Three bids were received.

The engineer’s estimate for the work was $829,359.

“Well, we made over $100,000 on that one,” Commissioner Paul Anderson remarked.

Robley anticipates the construction will be completed by October 14.
