State Class AA track and field: Jamie Piepenburg, Rosey Erickson lead Cards to runner-up honors
Both girls earned state championships while the boys' team finished 33rd behind Dan Gorghuber's fourth place in the 300-meter low hurdles.
Rosey Erickson captured state championship honors in the long jump with a distance of 18' 1.75" and finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 36' 8.5" to help lead the Cardinal girls' track and field team to runner up honors in the State Class AA meet at Hamline today. Hopkins won the state team championship with 84.
Jamie Piepenburg earned runner-up honors in the 1,600-meter run to go with her state championship in the 3,200 meters won yesterday as she ran a 4:59.51 to trail Christina Monson of Albert Lea by 0.22 of a second.
Erickson was sixth in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 12.66. Sasha Davis of Park Center earned championship honors with a 12.31. Erickson was also sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.69. Davis again won top honors with a 24.73.
Karly Betterman, who qualified in the 300-meter low hurdles, did not makes the finals.
Brittany Ludwig earned a trip to state in the discus, but did not qualify for the finals.
The Alexandria boys were 33rd overall with nine points as Dan Gorghuber finished fifth overall in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. He ran to a 39.21, while Rilan Alowondle of Park earned top honors with a 37.32.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Mike Huss, Ben Vickstrom, Felix Coleman and Dan Gorghuber finished sixth overall with a time of 3:23.86.
Vickstrom reached the state meet in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, but did not qualify for the finals.
