A strong season for the Ashby softball team came to an end last Thursday with a 10-0 loss against the North’s top-seeded team in Hawley.
The Nuggets culminated their run through the Section 6A tournament with a 10-0 shutout. They won section play by outscoring their opponents 19-0 in three games.
Ashby stuck with them early before Hawley scored nine runs over the final four innings. The biggest blow came in the fifth when the Nuggets put up four runs to take a 7-0 lead.
Ashby had six hits in the game but could not push any runs across on Nuggets’ starter Jessy Noreen. Noreen struck out 11 in the game. Amber Sundal went 2-for-3 for the Arrows, while Haley Ness, Hayley Barry, Jeannette Evavold and Madison VanSanten each added one hit.
Ashby ended the season with a record of 17-5 overall. The Arrows won the Pheasant Conference title and the subsection title. Their runner-up trophy capped of one of the best seasons in team history.
“The Arrow softball team will miss the leadership and talent of seniors Haley Ness, Hayley Barry, Alli Grecco and Emily Williams next year,” head coach Joey Andreasen said. “We wish them the best of luck. Congratulations to all of the girls on an awesome season. They represented their team and community very well, and I am very proud of them.”
