Minnesota social studies teachers get free admission to history museums

This week, Minnesota’s 4th-8th grade social studies teachers will find a summer deal in their mailboxes: a "History Pass" for free admission to all Minnesota Historical Society sites and museums all summer long.

The History Pass is just one way the Society is broadening access to history for teachers and students around the state.

The History Pass comes with a new Teacher’s Guide that details more than a dozen special deals and freebies to benefit Minnesota teachers and students including:

Financial aid for field trip transportation to MHS historic sites and museums

Help with lodging costs for students from greater Minnesota attending MHS field trips in the Twin Cities

Opportunities to win a free Interactive Video Conferencing lesson, History Player visit and set of Northern Lights textbooks

Travel and substitute subsidies for teachers attending history workshops

Free teacher preview of the upcoming 1968 exhibit at the Minnesota History Center.

“This new Teacher’s Guide and History Pass is our way of telling educators how much we value them and want them to know about all the exciting opportunities and convenient resources we have to offer,” said Wendy Jones, Head of Museum and Education Programs at the Minnesota History Center.

The Society is also delivering the Teacher’s Guide and summer History Pass to librarians, media specialists and all principals of 4th-8th grade students in Minnesota.

Select educational programs detailed in the Teacher’s Guide are made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4, 2008.
