Baseball: Carlos Cougars now 2-0
Carlos defeats Ashby A's, Alexandria Senators
The always competitive Carlos Cougars improved to 2-0 on the early season with a 5-0 win over Ashby this past Saturday.
The Cougars got a dominating start by Alexandria’s Mark Hillesheim on the mound. Hillesheim allowed just two hits and two walks against the A’s lineup. He struck out 14.
His offense got him some runs to work with in the second before adding on in the late innings. Carlos scored once in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to coast to the victory.
Ben Bruggeman had a big day at the plate to lead that offense. He went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Aaron Noetzelman added a double, a single and two RBIs.
The win over Ashby was the second of the season for Hillesheim after he helped the Cougars to a 3-2 win over Alexandria in their season opener. He worked five innings against the Senators, striking out nine and allowing just the one hit.
Alexandria scored two runs in the eighth and ninth innings of that game off of Bruggeman. It wasn’t enough as Carlos held on for the one-run victory. Joel Siegel had two RBIs, while Bruggeman had a walk, a single and two runs scored.
Carlos will host two games this weekend at Firemans Field. The Cougars welcome in Osakis tonight, Friday, for an 8 p.m. first pitch before Long Prairie comes to town on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
