Section 8AA boys' tennis: LeVahn ends season, career in playoffs
Alexandria senior Ben LeVahn saw his career with the Cardinals come to an end on Tuesday in the opening round of the individual section singles tournament.
LeVahn started fast but could not close out St. Cloud Tech’s Chris Mavetz in a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 win for Mavetz. LeVahn had a 5-4 lead in the second and had three set points. Mavetz found a way to win the most important points of that set as he worked his way back for the win in a tiebreaker.
LeVahn rebounded with another quick start in the decisive third set. He led 3-0 before Mavetz again battled back. He took seven of the last nine points to secure the win and move on in the tournament.
“It was very disappointing for Ben and rightfully so,” head coach Dave Ronning said. “He has worked hard to get to this point and when you have a bad day there is little you can do about it at the moment. Ben had a great senior season, and he has a lot to be proud of.”
LeVahn was the catalyst of the Cardinal tennis team all season, anchoring the No. 1 singles spot for his team.
