The Cardinal softball team helped guarantee itself of at least one home playoff game with the way it ended its regular season last week.

Alexandria secured the No. 4 seed in the Section 8AAA tournament. The Cardinals will take on fifth-seeded Big Lake (13-7) tonight, Wednesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Woodland Elementary Field.

Alexandria would have five days off to prepare for what would likely be a familiar foe if the Cardinals can win its opening game against Big Lake. Brainerd earned the No. 1 seed after going 17-0 and would welcome in the winner of tonight’s game next Monday at noon. The section title game is scheduled for June 1 at 6 p.m., with a game two to follow on June 2, if necessary.
