Card boys track: Alexandria finishes fourth behind strong relays at True Team

The Alexandria boys’ track and field team used three relay wins and a strong showing in the field events to finish fourth at the Section 8AAA True Team meet last Thursday.

The Alexandria boys’ track and field team used three relay wins and a strong showing in the field events to finish fourth at the Section 8AAA True Team meet last Thursday.

The Cardinals finished with a team score of 686.5. Brainerd won the meet with a 795.5, while Buffalo (725.5) and Moorhead (691.5) rounded out the top three.

Alexandria won three relay events. The 4x200 team of Derek Goracke, Dylan Galligan, Lee Klein and Zach VonOrsdel dropped their season-best time by almost two seconds to finish in 1:33.44.

Felix Coleman, Derek Goracke, Mike Huss and Ben Vickstrom won the 4x100 with a season-best time of 43.94 seconds. The 4x400 team of Coleman, Huss, VanOrsdel and Dan Gorghuber came from behind to take their event in 3:33.23.

Vickstrom and Jesse Hacker won two individual events for the Cardinals. Vickstrom won the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 10.98 seconds, while Hacker took the shot put with a toss of 49’10.5.” That beat his previous personal best throw by more than three feet.

Hacker was part of a Cardinal shot put crew that tallied 68 points for their team. Andy Werk and Tanner Thompson provided that depth with second and fourth-place finishes, respectively.

Thompson, Werk and Brandon Believeau earned 55 points for Alexandria in the discus competition. Thompson was second in the event, while both Werk and Beliveau earned top-10 finishes. The 100-meter dash crew of Vickstrom, Huss and Galligan were also strong with 49 points for their team.
