Local 4-H'ers fare well at State Project Bowl
Four teams from Douglas County 4-H participated in the Minnesota 4-H State Project Bowl event held in Foley on April 17.
Four teams from Douglas County 4-H participated in the Minnesota 4-H State Project Bowl event held in Foley on April 17.
To qualify for the state event, teams must win at one of five regional bowls. Winners at the state level in the categories of dairy, general livestock, horse and poultry may advance to national contests.
For each bowl there are two divisions – junior and senior. Junior teams are composed of 4-H’ers in grades 3 through 8 and senior teams are composed of members in grades 4 through 4-H graduation.
Following are the local teams that participated in the state event and their placement:
Senior Rabbit – 5th place. Members include Daniel Wagner and Patrick Wagner of Brandon, Moe; Darren Radil of Alexandria, Lake Mary Troopers; Brittany Torgrimson of Alexandria, Independent.
Junior Rabbit – 6th place. Members include Shane Massmann of Osakis, Fancy Farmers; Madison Floden of Carlos, Hoofbeats; Megan Egenes and Kayla Egenes of Alexandria, Chippewans; Christina Kuismi of Evansville, Christina Lakers.
Junior General Livestock – 5th place. Members include William Schroeder of Brandon, Moe; Grant Yohnke and Gabrielle Palmer of Carlos and Nolan Hart and Susan Hart of Eagle Bend, Spruce Hill Rangers; Molly Maudal of Carlos, Liberty Livewires.
Senior Poultry – Reserve Champion. Members include Megen Way of Garfield, Chippewans; Jill Cihlar of Glenwood and Zoey Gustafson of Starbuck,Waska Wonders; Jared Sorenson of Brooten, Busy Beavers.
The Senior Poultry team will compete in a National Project Bowl in the fall in Louisville, Kentucky.
The teams are coached by parents and adult volunteers.
