UPDATE: Semi crash closes I-94 near Evansville Friday morning

A semi-truck tractor and trailer struck another semi traveling west on I-94 near Evansville Friday. A third semi crossed the interstate median and rolled over to avoid the crash. Two semi drivers sustained non-serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals. Traffic piled up on I-94 after both east and westbound traffic lanes were blocked and closed for hours.

About 5 a.m. Friday morning a semi-truck tractor and trailer traveling westbound on Interstate 94 near Evansville rear ended another semi and jackknifed.

Both east and westbound lanes of I-94 were blocked after another semi traveling westbound crossed the median and rolled, trying to avoid the crash scene, according to Minnesota State Patrol.

The driver of the jackknifed semi, Dionte Davis, 32, of Minneapolis, was taken to Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

The driver in the rollover blocking eastbound I-94 traffic, Steven Thordarson, 59, of Casselton, N.D., was taken to Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. Both victims' injuries were reported as non-serious.

The driver of the rear ended semi, Orlyn Rosenberg, 69, of Le Mars, Iowa continued to the Ashby exit.

To avoid the crash, a westbound charter bus drove into a north ditch. No injuries to occupants of the bus were reported. The bus was undamaged and only required a tow truck, according to Minnesota State Patrol.

Another eastbound vehicle landed in the ditch after it attempted to go around the rollover site.

Westbound I-94 traffic reopened about 7:30 a.m. and eastbound traffic reopened around 10:30 a.m., according to Minnesota State Patrol.

Minnesota State Troopers, Evansville Fire and Rescue, North Ambulance, Ashby Ambulance, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and MNDOT units assisted at the scene. State Patrol continues its investigation.
