The things kids say about their Mom

What makes moms special? Everyone has their own answers, including 2nd graders at Lincoln Elementary School in Alexandria.

What makes moms special?

Everyone has their own answers, including 2nd graders at Lincoln Elementary School in Alexandria.

Their moms help them when their hurt, give them goodnight hugs and take them fishing.

Their moms are beautiful, funny, “very, very, very nice,” ticklish, really cool and not the least bit grumpy.

And that’s just for starters.

In honor of Mother’s Day this Sunday, the Echo Press asked teachers Rebecca Evich, Colleen Lanes and Beth Melrose to have their students write about their mothers.

Students in Evich’s class wrote letters about why they love their mom or what makes their mother special.

Lanes and Melrose asked students to compose a cinquain – five-line poems that contain a one-word title, followed by two adjectives, three verbs, a four-word sentence that expresses a feeling and a one-word synonym for the title.

Here’s what the 2nd graders wrote:

DEAR MOM LETTERS FROM REBECCA

EVICH’S CLASS

You’re the best mom in the world because you help me with my homework when I’m confused. And you play baseball with me. I really love how you are so kind and so helpful.

Love, Tyler Norum

You are the best mom because you buy me birthday presents. You help me when I am hurt or when I am sick. You are also special when you hug me good night.

Love, Carson Schreck

You are the best mom because you love me and I love you. You wake me up sweetly and you give me breakfast. You give me toys and bring me surprises now and then. You are nice, like sugar and spice.

Love, Tyler Jabas

You are the best mom because you will give me a new bed. It is a princess bed for my birthday. You will do the best job setting my room up. It is fun when we work together in the back yard. I do the glue and you do the bricks. I love you with all my heart.

Love, Sara Schnetzer

You’re the best because you are nice to me, and to everyone all the time. I love you with all my heart every day. I love you more every day.

Love, Jackson Christensen

I love you because you are the best mom ever because you take me fishing. I know you love me, too.

Love, Casey Cook

I love you because you help me do stuff like making my bed and doing my homework before bed. You are the best mom because you clean the house so good. I love you because we go shopping together. I love you because you are sweet and you are a very nice mom.

Love, Savannah Mulder

I love you because you are the best mom ever. You are pretty. You are amusing. You couldn’t be more nice than you are now. I love you more than anything else in the universe.

Love, Matt McKay

You are sweet, nice and funny. You give me hugs at night. You wake me up. You help me with my homework. You are pretty, too.

Love, Aidan Gunsaullus

You are the best mom in the world because you are nice and you are nice because you help me understand new things that I don’t get. You buy me clothes. You buy me food. You buy me toys. You keep the house clean. You help me when I’m hurt and you calm me when I’m sad.

Love, Dylan Nelson

You are the best mom because you take me to movies and you take me out to eat, and that is because you are very, very, very nice. You are kind because you buy me stuff I don’t need. That is why I love you. You make me feel like chocolate dripping off wood.

Love, Whitly Netland

I love you because of your smile, how you kiss me good night, how you make dinner for me, how you help keep the house clean, how you help me get ready for school, how you say you love me, how you help me with my homework, how you remind me to bring back my homework, how you tell me to clean my room, how you thank me when I pick you flowers, and how you always make me smile.

Love, Grace Schmidt

I love you because you give me hugs and kisses every night. I love you when you bring Grace and me to the park. I love when we have picnics. I love when you are happy. And I want you to live forever.

Love, Emma Schloegl

I love you because you watch TV with me. You read with and to me. You read until I go to sleep. You let me make a lot of stuff. You let me try to make stuff.

Love, Cameron Hochsprung

I love you because you always help me with work when I’m frustrated. I love when you walk to the park with me on sunny days. I love the way you smile at me. I really love that you are very, very kind. And I hope you like the poem on the bottom of this paper.

Love, Zach Kent

I love that you are very kind and that you’re very sweet. You are the mom I hoped for. You’re the one that can’t be beat.

I love you because of the way you tuck me into bed and kiss me good night. I love the way you say, “You’re special.” I love the way you say, “I love you.” And I love you too, Mom.

Love, Alayna Strand

I love you because you kiss me good night. You help me when I need help. You play games with me. You help me when I get hurt. You help me pick out my clothes. You help me make my bed.

Love, Ellie Betterman

I love you because you are a nice mom, because you aren’t grumpy. The house is clean because we clean for you. We are nice because you are nice. I love you and you love me.

Love, Aaron Jost

I love you because you take me fishing in the spring. It is fun when you get a bite because I get to take it off and when I get a bite you get it off. When we go back you help me clean them. I love you.

Love, Connor Lay

I love you because you play with me. I love you, Mom.

Love, Eli

I love you because you let me go to my friends. And you play catch with me. You take me for rides on grandpa’s four-wheeler and you let me watch movies.

Love, Blaize Bryant

I love you because you do important stuff for me. I love the way you smile and the way you make breakfast and the way you say, “I love you.” Those are the three things how I love you.

Love, Totyona Vincent

I love you because you help me clean my room with Sophie. You help me pick out my clothes. You go to the store with me to buy things. You help me find something to eat.

Love, Aubrey Minnerath
