Someone called a Todd County resident and identified himself as a family member. He said he needed money for bail and other expenses as a result of a traffic accident in Mexico. The resident fell for the scam and lost a large amount of money, according to authorities.
The Todd County Sheriff's Office urges people to be cautious of these kind of situations and encourages residents to avoid sending money to people unless they are absolutely certain of where it is going. The scam artist will often have detailed information about a family member or friend, the sheriff's office added.
