Library sets sale of "Life" magazines
The Douglas County Friends of the Library will be selling a piece of publishing history – Life magazines dating back to 1937.
The Douglas County Friends of the Library will be selling a piece of publishing history – Life magazines dating back to 1937.
The sale runs Thursday, May 5 through Wednesday, May 11 in the library’s meeting room.
The magazines are marked with the Alexandria Public Library stamp and their condition varies from issue to issue. A portion of the magazines with more significant covers will be specially priced, with a large selection of magazines priced at $1 per issue.
There are missing issues but there should be an issue to satisfy most shoppers. Some favorites might be the Beatles, John Wayne or Willie Mays. There will also be issues of Time magazine (some in bound volumes, most are missing their covers) and other assorted magazine titles.
The Friends of the Library will hold their annual meeting on Wednesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. Friends of the Library members will be able to purchase the magazines following the annual meeting, with the sale opening to the public on May 5.
The proceeds of the sale will be used to purchase new materials and services for the library.
