DMS, JHS math students compete in St. Cloud
Twenty-nine 8th to 12th graders from Discovery Middle School and Jefferson High School in Alexandria competed at the St. Cloud State University math contest on April 7.
Twenty-nine 8th to 12th graders from Discovery Middle School and Jefferson High School in Alexandria competed at the St. Cloud State University math contest on April 7. Following are the results:
• 8th grade – Out of 580 participants, Carl Branch placed in the top 5 percent; Eric Branch placed in the top 10 percent.
• 9th grade – Out of 161 participants, Ben Tollefson placed in the top 10 percent.
• 10th grade – Out of 231 participants, Taylor Score took home third place and Kalli Bowser placed in the top 5 percent.
• 11th grade – Out of 116 participants, Will Sieling received third place, and the three-person team of Sieling, Austin McCulloch and John Turner received second place.
• 12th grade – Out of 73 participants, Ben LeVahn earned seventh place.
Team scores are calculated by combining the top three individual scores at each grade level. During the individual test, students have 60 minutes to complete 30 to 35 rigorous problems.
