The Brush and Palette Club will offer a collage workshop by Joanne Cress.

It will take place April 13, 14 and 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at United Methodist Church, 2011 East 6th Avenue, Alexandria.

Cress is a life-long artist and art educator. She has taught all ages in venues from rural southern Indiana, to suburban Hopkins, Minnesota, to the University of Hawaii, to urban Washington, D.C., and west central Minnesota, where she started her own private art school.

She continues to mentor students and is active in the art community. She holds a master’s degree in art education from the University of Minnesota and has been honored as a teacher.

Her work in various mediums has received awards in many juried art exhibits.

Cress’ workshop will begin with a review of the basic elements/principles of design. Students will do warm-up projects to help them move out of their comfort zones and experiment with the exciting possibilities of collage.

Simplified, fun figure drawings will be introduced and can be incorporated into projects. Students will also crop personal photos, magazine pictures, and other images as a foundation for their collage.

Many options will be explored using a variety of materials to develop compositions. The goal is for each student to have a completed, or the beginnings of, one or more good compositions at the end of the workshop.

For more information or to register for the workshop, contact Jana Tonsfeldt at (218) 943-1887.
