Knute Nelson and Walgreen’s will offer a free educational event on medication management today, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. in the Governor’s Room at Nelson Gables.
This specialized event is designed to address drug interactions, medication side effects and duplications, as well as offer answers in a one-to-one setting with a pharmacist.
“It is our goal to help our community members and caregivers be more aware about medication management. We want to equip individuals with knowledge on medication reconciliation and related effects,” said Anne Major, director of Home Care for Knute Nelson. “This information may help decrease re-hospitalization and ER visits. It can also help increase the quality of life for many community members.”
According to an Ecumen Age Wave Study, 89 percent of baby boomers wish to remain living in their own home, even if they or their spouse have a debilitating illness. This statistic, coupled with an unprecedented demographic shift occurring in Minnesota, presents challenges and opportunities to the health care system, said Major.
In Douglas County alone, the number of adults aged 55 and older is expected to jump by 70 percent from 2005 to 2030, while the number of adults age 65 and older is expected to double.
All community members who are interested in learning more about medication management and long term strategies for health are welcome to attend. Refreshments and a light snack will be served.
