Card girls' basketball: Alexandria faces Fergus Falls in Section 8AAA championship tonight
Tonight at 6 p.m., Alexandria will be hunting for a berth in the State Class AAA girls’ basketball tournament when they face Fergus Falls in the Section 8AAA championship at St. John’s University.
Alexandria and Fergus Falls have met twice this season, with Fergus winning both games by close scores of 40-36 and 67-65 (overtime).
Both teams are similar. Fergus Falls is ranked No. 8 in Class AAA, while Alexandria is ranked No. 9 Both have 23-3 records and both have multiple players at 6’0” or taller. Fergus Falls won the Central Lakes Conference title, with Alexandria finishing as runner-up.
Alexandria does have experience on its side. This is the Cardinals’ second consecutive trip to the Section 8AAA finals and they have made six state tournament trips. Fergus Falls has reached the state tournament just once.
