The public is invited to a presentation titled “Exhibiting a Controversial Runestone: The Kensington Phenomenon,” on Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at the American Swedish Institute (ASI).

Swedish scholar Adam Hjorthén will discuss why the Kensington Runestone – arguably the world’s most controversial and famous runestone – has been considered such an important artifact, and how it has been exhibited in the 20th and 21st century.

Many have debated the authenticity of the stone, which was discovered in Douglas County in 1898, and many experts have considered it to be from the 19th century. However, despite those claims, it has been displayed by prominent museums and institutions in both Sweden and the U.S., including the ASI in 1935.

Cost to attend the presentation is $8 ($6 for ASI members). Reservations are encouraged; seating will be limited. Call (612) 871-4907 to register. The ASI is located at 2600 Park Avenue in Minneapolis. More information can be found at www.americanswedishinst.org.
